FIA Turns The Screw On LMP Manufacturers

A short paragraph in the latest bulletin from the FIA World Council marks a potentially significant change in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

“In order to increase competitiveness, from 2014 the title of FIA World Endurance Manufacturers’ Champion will be awarded to the manufacturer scoring the greatest number of points with two cars (three cars if under Article 16.A) in the general classification.”

That can be interpreted in a number of ways but the wording is surely designed to encourage manufacturer entries to commit a full 2 car effort to a whole season, something which Toyota have been unable to do in their first two seasons in the WEC.
