Ginettas In The Gulf

Ginetta’s factory outfit, Team LNT have confirmed an entry into the 2014 24hr Dubai on 9 – 11 January 2014 in a GT3 class Ginetta G55 GT3.

After a 2013 which saw the team race in a mixed programme of British GT, MSA British Endurance Championship and International GT Open events the team are now confident of putting on an impressive show in the Dubai 24h.

It’s not though, of course, the team’s first 24 hour outing. Ginetta Chairman Lawrence Tomlinson and Team LNT were class winners in the Le Mans 24h GT2 class in 2006, as well as the Britcar 24 hour in that same year.

More recently, Team LNT also won 2010 Britcar 24 Hour Class 4 honours in their Ginetta G40 – which Team LNT drove from their Leeds base to Silverstone, where they qualified, raced, won and drove home again.

With their driver line-up still to be announced, Ginetta factory driver and former British Karting Champion Mike Simpson;

“Team LNT are looking forward to making their debut in the 24hr Dubai; with preparations in Leeds already underway. Lawrence Tomlinson knows what it takes to win such a high-profile race, and we are going there with our sights set on a prominent result.”

Team LNT will not be fielding the only Ginetta on the grid however, as Optimum Motorsport and Team Parker Racing will be competing in their Ginetta G50 GT4 Cars, with Optimum Motorsport aiming to reclaim the class honours, having won the GT4 battle in 2012.

Former British Touring Car Championship and Ginetta G50 racer Tony Hughes is also racing in Dubai with the Stockport based, Hughes/Speedworks team in his former Ginetta G50 Championship racer following a full upgrade to GT4 specification by Ginetta Cars.

The Hughes Safety Showers boss will himself be racing, this time accompanied by Speedworks team principal; Christian Dick, whose team will run the car during the 24 hour endurance challenge, and be backed principally by Hughes Safety Showers.

Neither of them is a stranger to a Ginetta G50 after Tony raced for three seasons in the BTCC supporting G50 Championship before moving into Touring Cars. Christian, meanwhile, has previously taken class honours at the wheel of a Ginetta G50 in the British GT Championship, winning the GT4 title in 2010.

“I’m really excited about getting out to Dubai” explains Hughes, “I’ve already whetted my appetite competing in the Britcar 24hr race at Silverstone back in 2010. I’ve had the privilege of racing at the top level of motorsport in the UK and now I’m looking forward to the challenge of competing on a global stage at one of the most challenging events in the world”

Tony, whose Bredbury based Safety Shower manufacturer does business in the Middle East added; “It’s been a natural decision in many ways to pick the Ginetta to compete in. Not only is it probably the best GT4 car in the world but the great relationship we have with the guys at Ginetta Cars meant it was pretty much a foregone conclusion”.
