Le Mans 24 Hours: Scrutineering Notes 9, AF Corse's Mammoth Presence

AF Corse Team Manager Batti Pregliasco looked cool, calm and collected as the enormous team presence here this week began to roll through scrutineering.

With two cars each in LMP2 (SMP racing) and LM GTE Pro, plus a further five (including the 8Star car) in LM GTE Am, the logistics for a private team are unprecedented here.

“We have 120 mechanics, support staff, catering and, of course, 27 drivers! Plus wives, girlfriends, families, sponsors and other guests, it has been quite a project!”

Asked whether there had ever been any prospect of a further car being fielded to allow the restoration of a 56 car grid, the answer, through eyes raised to the sky, was clear enough.

“In reality, while we have other cars available, the time taken to prepare them for this race would have counted that out without compromising other programmes and we care too much about the customers of the team to do that.”

In addition to their commitments here this weekend, AF Corse have been running a further gaggle of cars at the International GT Open in Portimao this weekend!
