It was not aa total surprise to see Ram Racing appear on the entry list for the 2015 Dubai 24 Hours, Dan Shufflebottom’s team would have already posted an entry for the race where the team made their debut before the post Le Mans withdrawal of the team from the FIA WEC, the Dubai race a staple of the team’s annual programme and preparation.
Neither was the listing of a Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 a particular surprise, Shufflebottom’s close links with the manufacturer via his previous incarnation at Mercedes F1 will have made a contribution to that selection.
Indeed there has long been a background plan to try to draw together a basic GT3 programme from the aftermath of the travails of 2014 with the team still in the process of winding up its WEC programme, the Ferraris still remaining unsold at present.
“We’re working on it,” said Dan yesterday. “There’s a way to go with outstanding issues to be resolved but we’re hoping to be in a position to do Dubai and hopefully a number of the other Creventic events next year.” Potential plans to add a Blancpain GT Series programme are understood to have been parked for 2015.
Here’s hoping that Ram can make it. A team with Championship winning form needs to find a way to push up the shutters again.
