FIA WEC Statement On The Accident Between Mark Webber & Matteo Cressoni Updated

After the frightening incident in the final half hour of the 6 Hours of Interlagos that eliminated the #20 Porsche of Mark Webber and the #90 8Star Ferrari from the race the race organisers have released the following vert welcome statement:

At 18h33 local, during the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, an accident occured between the no20 Porsche 919 hybrid of Mark Webber and no90 8Star Motorsport Ferrari of Matteo Cressoni.

Mark Webber is reported to be awake and alert and taken to the circuit’s medical centre for further examination. Matteo Cressoni was examined at the side of the track and did not go to the Medical Centre.

We will issue further updates as we get them.

The latest update on both drivers involves the pair staying overnight at the hospital. Porsche able to confirm “The initial information the team received from the medical center at the track was that he was not badly injured. However, he has been transferred to a hospital in São Paul for further checks.”

Cressoni did take to Twitter, however, and wrote: “Thanks all guys! I will stay in the hospital tonight but everything seems ok.”
