Gerard Ducarouge: 1941-2015

Gerard Ducarouge has passed away at the all too young age of 73.

Ducarouge was undoubtedly best known as a designer in Formula One through his work for Matra, Ligier, where he stole a march on ground effect technology, Alfa Romeo, Lotus (where his 97T gave Ayrton Senna his first Grand Prix win), and Larrousse, then as the lead designer on the bonkers Renault Espace F1 programme.

His early career with Matra though saw him involved with a succession of successful sportscars from the BRM engined MS620 through to the Le Mans and world sportscar title winning MS670s of 1972-73 (seen below with Graham Hill at the wheel on the way to a Le Mans win in 1972).

Our condolences to his family and many friends in the sport.
