Italian Website Automoto interviewed Peugeot Sport’s Bruno Famin at the Geneva Motorshow and got the best indication yet of the conditions under which the French manufacturer would return to LMP1 at Le Mans and make it’s first entry into the FIA WEC after its aborted 2012 programme.
“We would love to return to Le Mans and The World Endurance today, we believe that marries perfectly with the philosophy of Peugeot ”
“It’s a league that puts a strain on the technological expertise of a brand and that is able to convey very well the values of a manufacturer. So it would be perfect.”
Bruno went on to explain though that the two main programmes for Peugeot at present, the 2008 DKR Dakar Rally car and FIA World RallyCross were three year commitments.
After that a WEC programme could be considered but the current costs would have to be reduced and the parent company (PSA) would have to have returned to a more stable financial state.
They are both big conditions of course. But the important point is that the answer wasn’t “No”!
