60 Car Entry Likely For 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours

Senior sources at the ACO have confirmed that the plan to add to the number of pit garages at Le Mans is to be revived in time for a planned expanded entry of 60 cars for the 2016 Le Mans 24 Hours.

The plan was initially to add to the current 56 garage pitlane in time for this year’s race but that plan was shelved in the wake of the topsy turvy nature of the entry list for last year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.

With the 2015 grids for the ELMS and FIA WEC looking healthy though, plus renewed interest from the United States (and the potential for a more healthy crop from Asia if the ACO’s AsLMS plans bear fruit) there was a looming issue of limited flexibility for the Invitations available for future running of the Le Mans 24 Hours.

There is no answer yet to the specific design changes that will be required to the pitlane proper though we believe the extension to the pit garage complex will take place at the current ‘pit-out’ end’
