2017 Gibson LMP2 Engine Development “Progressing Well”

Gibson-TechnologyThe design and development of the ‘spec’ Gibson LMP2 engine for the ELMS and FIA WEC is progressing well at Gibson Technology’s Repton, Derbyshire plant.

The new c.600bhp 4.2 Litre V8 engine was selected in the FIA contest earlier this year as the standard fit for the four approved chassis suppliers in the new look class from the 2017 season.

“We have a development engine running on the dyno with a next step on the design almost ready to go,” said Gibson’s Operations Director John Manchester. “The work is progressing very well, we’re very happy at the moment with the programme.”

“We are sharing all of our information and data with all four of the approved chassis suppliers as things progress and there has been a lot of very constructive discussion.”

Workshop testing will continue well into next year ahead of final FIA approval.

“We are looking to start track testing of the engine in the latter part of 2016, each chassis manufacturer will have an equal opportunity to access development engines to allow all of them to progress their own development plans,” said Manchester.
