IDEC Sport may not be a familiar name to DSC readers at present but their solid performance in the VdeV Series saw the team take runner up spots in both the Prototype and GT Championship standings.
In 2016 though it looks likely that we’ll be hearing more from them with the team set to welcome two significant new cars to their roster, and to enter two significant Series:
“Our ambitions are starting to show themselves, as we are committed to buying a Mercedes AMG GT3 to tackle the top category in the 24-Hour Series. That means we’re moving up a level in the championship (they currently compete in the 997 (Porsche Cup class) and it is possible that we will make a few appearances in the VdeV championship with the AMG.”
The team will remain faithful to the VdeV Series, probably with four cars competing (two GTs and two prototypes), but will add a new series to their calendar too.
The plan is for IDEC Sport to enter the LMP2 class in the 2016 ELMS with a Ligier.
“We have taken out an option on a Ligier to take part in the 2016-2017 season, with the aim of preparing for the Le Mans 24-Hour Race in 2017,” confirmed Patrice Lafargue. “This is an important development for the team, but we remain simple and humble, as we have plenty to learn in this championship and have no experience so far. This is clearly a step up and the cars are much faster, the races hotly contested, so this is of a much higher standard than what we have so far been through.”
