The 2016 Calendar, Choices To Be Made All Around The World

So what does the 2016 calendar tell us, even in the first draft we have released this morning on DSC with additional series and standalone races still to be added?

It already looks like being a very busy year, with just one weekend between the beginning of March and 19 November thus far not featuring a race of DSC interest somewhere!

Easter weekend again provides a logjam of racing. IMSA gets into its season stride at Long Beach (together with Pirelli World Challenge) whilst we have the Season openers for ELMS, British GT, ADAC GT Masters and of course FIA WEC.

The weekend of 7/8 May sees the first clash between the WEC (Spa) and Blancpain GT (Brands Hatch) with the 24H Series also at Zandvoort that same weekend.

The following weekend too sees a further major clash with the ELMS at Imola (together with the new Michelin GT3 Le Mans Cup) and Blancpain Endurance at Silverstone!

The last weekend in May sees the Nurburgring 24 Hours with clashes with British GT (Oulton Park), Aussie GTs (Phillip Island) and Pirelli World Challenge (Lime Rock).

Into June and there will be choices to be made in the first weekend with the Le Mans Test Day on 5 June again potentially causing logistical issues for IMSA drivers, the Detroit race is on the day before. The Test Day also has racing in ADAC GT Masters, International GT Open and the French GT and Prototype Championship on the same day.

IMSA and WEC clash again in July with the Nurburgring World Championship event sharing dates with the Lime Rock IMSA outing.

The Blancpain GT vs ELMS / GT3 Cup clash appears for a second time in late August with the planned Sprint round in Hungary clashing with the ELMS trip to Paul Ricard.

Into September and one of the most crowded weekends of the lot comes with Lone Star Le Mans at COTA on 17 September, the joint IMSA / WEC weekend going head to head with Pirelli World Challenge at Sonoma Raceway and Blancpain Endurance at the Nurburgring.

October’s first weekend sees another busy one with Blancpain Sprint at Barcelona, ADAC GT Masters, the French GT and Prototype Championship at Imola and International GT Open (Monza) all clashing with Petit Le Mans.

Finally (for now at least!) the ELMS season finale at Estoril is just a week before the Asian LMS season opener at Zhuhai!

It’s going to be a very busy 2016!!
