Timo Bernhard, The Story Of A Champion

Just a few days ago Timo Bernhard scored another remarkable success in being crowned the FIA WEC Drivers Champion, after sharing the Porsche 919 Hybrid together with Mark Webber and Brendon Hartley.

It’s another major championship for Bernhard in his racing career, which has first started out in 1991 in local go kart slalom. Over the past 25 seasons he has won countless races and championships, among others, overall victories in the Le Mans, Daytona and Nürburgring 24 Hour races. Has won the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland, the GT and LMP2 Championship in the American Le Mans Series and of course the LMP1 honours in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The book ‘Timo Bernhard, The story of a Champion’ tells of his progress from the earliest days in karts up to his present commitment with the works Porsche 919 Hybrid, including all the highs and lows of this great career in motor racing that still has far to go.

It gives an inside view into the life of a racing driver, for whom the sport always comes first, who is determined and works hard to be successful, who doesn’t see racing as a profession, but rather as a vocation and who, above all, lives for his sport. It documents Timo Bernhard’s personality as somebody who, helped by his family, has made it by his own means from being a talented young driver to the very top level of motor racing. This book is a glance behind the helmet visor of a great racing driver, an insight into the life of a real personality.

Peter Schäffner, author of the book, has held countless interviews with Timo about his career progress and in parts of the book you get the feeling that you are not reading a book but Timo is sitting on the other end of the table and talking to you about his career.

The 284 page book contains over 400 photos and is written in English and German. There are guest pieces by numerous people who were part of his career, among others Mark Webber, Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb, Olaf Manthey, Roger Penske, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich and Helmut Greiner. The foreword comes from Dr. Wolfgang Porsche.
