Romolo Liebchen’s Bathurst Farewell

Romolo Liebchen, outgoing head of Audi Sport Customer racing was in charge for his final major event at the Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hours, leaving with a win in the Class A-Am class but not the desired overall victory.

In a wide ranging exclusive interview for Radio Le Mans and DSC, Liebchen confirmed that the move away from the Customer Sport position had been his decision, that he will stay within Quattro gmbh with family time becoming important after years of dozens of weekends away from home.

Liebchen’s time at Audi Sport saw him heavily involved in the early LMP programme with the original R8 before a switch to establish the Customer Sport arm.

The Audi R8 LMS became one of the most successful GT3 cars of all with 137 built, 130 for customers, and 28 Championships won, plus major endurance race and class wins including the Spa 24 Hours, Nurburgring 24 Hours, Dubai 24 Hours and Daytona 24 Hours.
