The shambles that has surrounded the decision making process around the start time of the 2016 European Grand Prix in Azerbaijan continues despite the Azerbaijani government cancelling daylight saving time for 2016.
The move means the race is now set to start at 5pm local time rather than the originally scheduled 6pm, but with the prevailing time zone difference that change now sees the Baku race starting at exactly the point that the Le Mans 24 Hours ends, any audience wishing to view both events live therefore would either miss the start of the F1 Grand Prix, or the post race podium ceremonies and full race finish in France!
This despite a standing agreement that supposedly protected Le Mans from clashing dates on the F1 calendar.
It seems clear that those responsible for establishing the 2016 Formula One calendar are rather more interested in the money that will inevitably reach F1’s owners from mounting this event than respecting, in any way, the interests of the wider sport.
