Asian Le Mans Series Update: LMP3s & Lamborghini

Firstly a correction

We wrote here recently that KCMG were set to enter a pair of LMP3 Ginettas for customers. That story has a nugget of truth in it but KCMG will not be entering LMP3 in the Asian LMS.

At least one further LMP3 programme announcement is however set to come forward in the coming days.

We have also written about Miro Konopka’s plans to field a second Ginetta in the 2016/17 Asian Le mans Series LMP3 class. That plan IS going forward. DSC believes that Konopka is set to have a stock of three cars, the current ex Lanan Racing chassis which is set to be uprated to full current specification, a brand new Ginetta LMP3 on a new chassis, and the ex Speed factory car which will be used as a spare.

Ex Nissan GT Academy winner Gaetan Paletou (above) is set to form part of the driving squad.

The GT class will see the addition of at least one Lamborghini Huracan GT3 with the news that Vincenzo Sospiri will enter the fray with his own team. Sospiri himself is set to drive.

Eduardo Freitas, the Asian LMS Race Director (as well as WEC and ELMS) has been appointed as the Asian Le Mans Sprint Cup Race Director. Due to a clash with the WEC (Mexico) he will be replaced for the third and last round of the season.
