Sad news from one of our correspondents the passing of the man behind a voice that will be very familiar to our Benelux-based readers.
Last Saturday the racing and journalism communities lost one of our own as legendary Belgian commentator Peter Baert passed away, aged 52, after losing a lengthy battle against cancer.
Peter was one of the cornerstones of the Dutch Eurosport commentary team at Le Mans and many other endurance races worldwide while he also made his mark in Belgian online and printed media for the better part of three decades.
Peter fought against his disease for over a year and it is a testament to his sheer grit and determination that he managed to take on full commentary duties at Le Mans in 2015 while undergoing chemotherapy, something he was adamant on taking on.
In fact Peter remained on his post until a week before his passing, choosing to keep working and not giving in until he literally couldn’t work anymore, the mark of a true endurance legend.
