The weather at Spa Francorchamps remains gloriously sunny, 27 degrees Celsius at midday, with a growing crowd that looks set to be a record for this race, the stands well populated and still with a busy paddock with time before the race.
Proton Reshuffle Le Mans lineups
A reshuffle in the originally planned Proton Competition Le Mans line-ups will see Wolf Henzler stay with the #78 KCMG GTE AM effort alongside Christian Ried.
That leaves a seat apiece to be confined in the #77 GTE Pro car and #78 KCMG Am 911 RSR.
LMP1 Privateer meeting
An internal ACO/ FIA meeting next week will, we believe, set the agenda for an announcement due at Le Mans on the future vision for the LMP1 Privateer class.
Penalties and wrist slaps
Both the #51 Ferrari and #66 Ford failed a post qualifying check where the engine continued to run after the fuel coupling had engaged. No penalty has been assessed, the matter dealt with under advice to the teams.
David Cheng was reprimanded post qualifying for failing to slow down sufficiently quickly at the Red Flag in the #35 Baxi DC Alpine.
Michael Christensen failed to reach the 107% qualifying minimum in the #77 Dempsey Proton Porsche, Christensen will be allowed to race but not to start, Richard Dietz will therefore start the race.
Pescarolo on the state of the WEC
Henri Pescarolo popped by the press room this morning, so DSC took the chance to spoke to him about his thoughts about the WEC.
“It’s obviously growing,” he said. “But there’s two ways of looking at it. The manufacturer interest is great, and the cars are spectacular, but the budgets are way too high. It’s now six times more expensive to run a P1 car than it was when I had my team in there, so the ACO need to be careful going forward.
“Endurance has changed, hopefully its for the better. A team like Rebellion has done extremely well flying the flag for privateers, I respect that. The WEC may find its need teams like that more and more going forward if anything major happens.”
There will be a full feature interview with Pescarolo on DSC in the coming weeks.
