BMW Team Teo Martín has announced that Pieter Schothorst will be the new teammate of reigning GT Open champion Miguel Ramos in the #1 BMW M6 with immediate effect, replacing Spanish driver Roldan Rodriguez in the remaining four rounds of the 2016 season.
The 21-year-old Dutchman has already good experience in international GT racing and Porsche Cups, after starting his career in Formula Renault 2.0. He won a race of the Renault Sport Trophy last weekend at Red Bull Ring, driving an R.S.01.
“First of all, I want to thank Teo for the opportunity,” Schothorst commented. “I’m very keen on working with BMW Team Teo Martín, Miguel and the BMW M6 GT3. I’m sure together we will form a very strong package that can fight for the wins, starting this weekend in Silverstone”.
Currently, Ramos sits third in the Drivers Championship with 51 points, while the Teo Martín squad leads the Teams Championship with 36.
The next round of the GT Open season is this weekend at Silverstone (22-24 July), and for British viewers both races will be broadcast live on BT Sport.
