Vanthoor & Vervisch Handed Post-Race Penalty

Ide and Mies extend their Sprint Cup points lead

Laurens Vanthoor and Frederic Vervisch, have been handed a 30-second post-race penalty for an unsafe release during the Main Race at the Hungaroring. In the race, they steered the #1 WRT Audi R8 to second place, but will drop to eighth as a result.

The sister WRT Audi of Enzo Ide and Christopher Mies is therefore classified second, with Rene Rast and Will Stevens’ R8 taking the final podium place.

The penalty also means that Ide and Mies, who won the weekend’s Qualifying Race, have increased their Blancpain Sprint Cup points lead to 17 points over Domink Baumann and Maxi Buhk with 79 points.

Rob Bell and Alvaro Parente, who failed to score during either race, dropped from first to fourth after a very disappointing weekend, in which their total of 56 points didn’t increase. Jules Szymkowiak and Bernd Schneider slotted into third with 59 points each.

Another penalty was applied during the race. Stephen Earle and David Perel had were handed a drive-through for causing an avoidable collision with Rino Mastronardi’s #55 AF Corse Ferrari at Turn 1 in the closing stages of the race to take the class lead. Mastronardi and Claudio Sdanewitsch still finished second after the penalty however, as Perel and Earle were a lap ahead.
