Estoril: Post Race Quotes

From the winners press conference

Giedo Van Der Garde: “I am really happy to win this title after not having a drive last year. I gave it all in my first stint. It was of course tough for us in the middle part of the race. Overall, I enjoyed it. We handled traffic management well. It is really not bad for a first season in endurance racing.”

Simon Dolan: “We never thought at the beginning of the season that we would be where we are today. We wanted to win the race… that is all we could do, really. There has been an accumulation of work done at the workshop, behind the scenes. That made the difference. We can now retire one of the most successful chassis in LMP2 history.”

Harry Tincknell: “It is a first championship victory for me after a first race win with Ford last week. We really had to dig down and work hard with the team. At the end of the day, we were the most consistant throughout the season and we won.”

Nico Lapierre: “We had some problems with our tyre strategy. We were agressive and that was not the best choice, especially for my team mate Henrik. I was given a set of new tires for my final stint: that just allowed me to do the job at the end of the race and finish second.”

Andreas Wirth: “There were times where I was screaming in my radio as I was facing serious issues in trafic. Some of these LMP3 drivers maybe had too much to deal with.”

Alex MacDowall: “Chaos happened in front of me at the start of the race with a lot of spinning LMP3s. I tried to avoid making mistakes during my first stint. Rory was very agressive so I had to let him go. The car was faultless. Andrew and Darren did a great job. On my last stint, my job was just to try to keep a gap with Pier Guidi.”

Darren Turner: “I believe I have witnessed one of Andrew’s best stint this season. If you had told me what happened to us today a week ago, I would not have believed you.”

There will be full interviews with Simon Dolan and Andrew Howard on DSC in the coming days
