GT Open Barcelona Notebook: Kessel Returns, AKKA To Debut

Four quality entries added for finale

Kessel to bring two cars to Barcelona

Kessel Racing, the Swiss stalwart team that has been a key player in the International GT Open for many years, is making its come-back to the series for the final 2016 round at Barcelona, with two Ferrari 458 GT3s.

The Canton Ticino-based squad will enter one car in Pro-Am with Italian GT star Niki Cadei and Ferrari Challenge specialist from Luxembourg Alexis De Bernardi. The other car will be racing in the Am category with Stephen Earle, who knows the GT Open well, and David Perel from South Africa.

Tiziana Borghi, sporting director of Kessel Racing commented: “It’s always a great pleasure to be back to the GT Open, a series that means a lot of us, and we are very excited to be at Barcelona for the season’s finale.”

AKKA-ASP Team with two Mercedes at Barcelona

In addition to Kessel’s pair of Ferraris, French Blancpain GT team AKKA-ASP Team will bring two Mercedes AMG GT3s to Spain for the series finale.

Auto Sport Promotion (ASP) is of course not a new entity in the series, which it campaigned in the past, and has been a regular participant to the finale in Catalonia.

The Tarn-based squad of Jérôme Policand, that has now switched to Mercedes machinery and entered into a new partnership with AKKA, will enter one car in GT-Am for Maurice and Benjamin Ricci, while the other, in Pro-Am category, will be driven by Jean-Luc Beaubelique and Policand himself.

The GT Open season finale is set to take place on the 5th and 6th of November at Circuit de Catalunya.
