The drama of Porsche’s 18th overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is examined by respected journalist René de Boer in his new book ‘Porsche Victory 2016’.
With the 18th overall victory Porsche further cemented their position as record breaking winners at the 24 Hours of Le Mans on 19 June 2016.
The manner of the triumph of Romain Dumas, Marc Lieb and Neel Jani was a real sensation, never to be forgotten by anyone that witnessed it. Over many parts of the race, the Porsche 919 Hybrid and TOYOTA GAZOO Racing had fought for the overall victory but the #2 Porsche had already settled for second, when the drive of the Toyota TS050 Hybrid failed just three minutes before the the chequered flag, handing Porsche its second victory in a row in the most dramatic fashion imaginable.
As in 2015, the Gruppe C publishing group has devoted a whole book to the overall victory. In ‘Porsche Victory 2016’, René de Boer documents the entire campaign of the Porsche teams, both the LMP1 factory team and the customer sport teams in the LM GTE classes, at La Sarthe.
At the beginning of the 192-page book, the cars and their crews are introduced before a detailed explanation of the events on the test day and during the training sessions. Also the technical scrutineering, the honouring of last years winners, the drivers parade and the traditional press conference aren’t left out.
The focus though is, of course, on the race itself, which is told partly by the protagonists both behind the wheel and on the pitwall.
The text paired with over 400 pictures makes the book a must-have for all Porsche fans and Le Mans disciples.
