Alessandro Pier Guidi has been announced this morning as the teammate for James Calado in the #51 Ferrari 488 GTE for the full 2017 FIA WEC season.
The move comes after the 33-year-old Italian signed a Ferrari factory contract after a 200-race GT racing career thus far. Across all his major races and championships he has scored more than 30 victories, including a win at the 2014 Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona in a GTD-spec Ferrari 458.
The move completes the AF Corse squad for the FIA WEC with Davide Rigon and Sam Bird again combining in the sister #71 Ferrari.
Pier Guidi’s promotion to the GTE Pro ranks comes in the wake of the departure from Ferrari’s ranks of Gianmaria Bruni, the Italian star looking set to join Porsche after a prolonged contract dispute. As a result of the despite, Bruni is unlikely to be seen in the FIA WEC for much of this season as part of the terms of his contract termination, also announced formally by Ferrari today, confirming that his formal departure will take place at the end of June.
