Dempsey Proton Racing has signed Porsche Supercup driver Matteo Cairoli and ADAC GT Masters racer Marvin Dienst for its 2017 FIA WEC campaign.
For 20-year-old Porsche Junior driver Cairoli (above), who finished second in last year’s Mobil 1 Supercup, is a big step up the Porsche ladder.
“Finally I am allowed to announce where I am going to race this year!” Said Cairoli on his Facebook page. “100% excited for the upcoming season in the World Endurance Championship with Dempsey Proton-Racing.
“Huge thanks to the team who believed in me and Porsche for another great opportunity.”
Dienst meanwhile is still making the transition into GT racing. The German won the 2015 ADAC Formel 4 championship before moving on to the organisation’s GT series last season.
He and Dienst will compete with the team in its sole WEC entry for this season – a Porsche 911 RSR in the GTE Am class – alongside team manager Christian Ried, after the team raced in GTE Pro as the sole representative of the Stuttgart brand in the series’ top GT division in 2016.
The 2017 FIA WEC season is set to get underway at Monza in April for the Prologue test on April 1-2.
