Belgian Audi Club Team WRT have announced a continuing multi-car commitment to the Blancpain GT Series with a 2017 programme that numbers four Audi R8 LMS in the Blancpain Endurance Cup and five in Blancpain Sprint Cup.
Blancpain Sprint Cup
2016 Sprint Champions Enzo Ide and Christopher Mies return, this time with the #1 car of course!
The #3 Audi has an all new line-up, ex Renault RS.01 and GT Open standout Pieter Schothorst combining with young British single seater racer Jake Dennis.
The #5 car sees young and slightly less young! combine as Dries Vanthoor joins forces with ex WEC World Champion and multiple Le mans winner and Marcel Fässler.
Will Stevens and Markus Winkelhock share the wheel of the #6 Audi.
The #17 R8 LMS sees Robin Frijns partnered with Stuart Leonard. Frijns’ Formula E commitments though will see him replaced by Jamie Green in Misano.
Blancpain Endurance Cup
The #3 effort in the Endurance races sees another new look squad.
Josh Caygill combines with Niki Mayr-Melnhof and Jonathan Venter.
The #5 Audi’s Sprint pairing of Dries Vanthoor and Marcel Fässler carries over to the enduros and is joined by Will Stevens.
The #6 Audi sees another Nathanaël Berthon (winner of the Andros Trophy over the winter with WRT) joined by Benoît Tréluyer and Stéphane Richelmi.
Finally the #17 R8 LMS has Stuart Leonard, Jake Dennis and Robin Frijns aboard. Again Frijns’ Formula E commitments will see him replaced by Jamie Green for Silverstone and Spa.
The crews for the 1000 km at Paul Ricard and the 24 Hours of Spa will be announced in due course by the team together with Audi Sport.
Vincent Vosse, Team Principal: “It’s hard to believe that the summer break is over and we are about to start another season, which will be the eighth for us.
“We were extremely busy preparing for 2017 and we are pleased to announce, once again, a very solid programme with the same number of cars as last year and top crews.
“The Blancpain GT Series has reached an incredible level and will be more competitive than ever. I am confident that our Audi R8 LMS, constantly developed with the support of Audi Sport, are able to take up the challenge and I am particularly pleased with the drivers and crews who will represent us this year.
“It is a perfect mix of talent and professionalism, experience and youth. I am delighted to see that many pilots with whom we have worked in the past have come back, proof that they believe in our skills and professionalism, but also appreciate the spirit and atmosphere we build day after day within the people who form WRT.
“This is one of our greatest strengths and it will be an undeniable asset for this year.”
