The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R, latest addition to a growing global GT4 spec pack, will make its global competition debut this week with the opening of the Pirelli World Challenge season at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.
The Pratt and Miller produced Camaro GT4.R is based on the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE production car, launched just last month.
“This is an exciting time for Chevrolet Racing with the first race for the new Camaro GT4.R,” said Mark Kent, Chevrolet Director of Motorsports Competition. “It is another great example of how Chevrolet transfers technology between our racing programs and our performance production vehicles. The Camaro brand has a strong history on the track and the street, and the GT4.R program will add to that pedigree.”
The Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R will compete in Pirelli World Challenge’s GTS class and the Grand Sport class of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge with a debut there set for May at Circuit of The Americas.
At this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge event, Blackdog Speed Shop will campaign two Camaro GT4.Rs to start its full-season programme. The CTSC support race to the 12 Hours of Sebring will see the debut of Stevenson Motorsport’s 2 car effort.
“The Camaro GT4.R is a true racing customer car that Chevrolet is proud to support,” said Shawn Meagher, Chevrolet’s Program Manager for the Camaro GT4.R. “Together with our Chevrolet Racing organization and our partner teams, we look forward to developing this into one of top GT programs in global motorsports.”
