Douglas Motorsport were early adopters of the new for 2017 Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship, adding a Ligier JS P3 to their already impressive national racing fleet for Mike Newbould and exciting Australian single-seater talent Thomas Randle, time enough to undertake an extensive pre-season test programme with the car and drivers
The team are now hoping to field a second Ligier in the Championship this year, with team boss Wayne Douglas expecting the team to hit the ground running.
Douglas says that there has been interest from young single-seater talent, as well as amateur drivers and is looking to enter a second car into the six weekend, 12 race championship in 2017.
“We’ve had a lot of interest from different drivers,” said Douglas. “People from single seaters, silver (FIA graded) drivers and we have two or three amateurs interested as well so it’s a case of putting a programme together. A two-car entry would be ideal because we’ve got good data from Thomas, who won the Toyota Series in Australia recently, so it means we are pretty well sorted. ”
Douglas fielded a single Ligier at the Snetterton preview race in October 2016, swiftly announced their joining of the championship before the end of 2016.
“We’re looking forward to the season starting,” said Douglas. “We’ve done all our tests on the Pirellis so we’ve got a good amount of experience with them. We’ll continue to test the car so we can hit the ground running.”
The first round of the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup takes place at Donington Park on 22 April.
