British driver Alex Lynn has confirmed to DSC that he will take part in the full FIA WEC season in LMP2 with G-Drive Racing, alongside Roman Rusinov and Pierre Thiriet in its Oreca 07 Gibson.
This news comes after Lynn tested with the team at Aragon earlier this month at the Dunlop Tyre Test; he had been pursuing a GTE Pro seat with a factory team prior to making moves to return to LMP2, after impressive with Manor at the end of last season.
“I believe that Roman had a short list of many drivers, some who were bigger names than me, with more visible experience, but from my side he could see I was hungry to get the drive,” Lynn said in conversation with DSC. “I want to win races, and I’ve ended up with a fantastic team in a fantastic car with great drivers alongside me. It’s great to have scored a full WEC campaign.”
This programme adds to his already busy schedule which will see him driving with BMW at the Nürburgring 24 Hours, DS Racing in Formula E and with Wayne Taylor Racing in IMSA.
Despite jumping from car to car and team to team already this year, Lynn told DSC that he felt right at home with the TDS-run G-Drive Racing squad.
“It was easy to get in and go with the team for me. What I like is the engineering team is headed up by David Leach, who has worked with the Oreca development car. Last year I met him and we have maintained a good relationship. I also know Romain from my three races with Manor, and he took notice of my performance.
“Getting a full-season drive in the WEC was crucial for me, it’s crucial to go to Le Mans, so to be with a race-winning outfit means it has worked out perfectly.”
