Malucelli Sets Last Gasp Pole For Scuderia Praha At Mugello

In car drama almost spoils the day for #11 Ferrari squad.

Matteo Malucelli put in a storming last minute run to score pole position for the 24H Series 12 Hours of Mugello, the first four hours of which will take place this afternoon before an overnight break.

The top four slots in qualifying were very closely fought with just thousandths separating the battles for pole and third respectively.

Malucelli was pushing hard to grab pole from Robert Lukas in the #29 Forch/ Olimp Porsche, the gap just four thousandths of a second coming into the final minutes of the 60 minute session.

Malucelli aborted a pair of laps after sector one, Joe Bradley establishing that the driver net had come astray and was knocking off the ignition switch!

A rapid repair job left the Italian with the chance for a pair of final attempts at pole, he needed just the one, a 1:47.480 edging Lukas back by just over two tenths of a second. With the Porsche in pit lane that was that for pole.

Behind the leading pair Robert Renauer just edged out the #21 Konrad Lamborghini for third on the grid, the #911 Herberth Porsche a late starter in the session after the team attended to an issue at the rear of the car, just nine thousandths of a second the difference between the two.

Tom Onslow Cole (#30 RAM Racing) and Bernd Schneider (#25 HTP) made it an all Mercedes AMG third row.
