The FIA, ACO and GTE Manufacturers in the WEC have confirmed that they have agreed on a major change to the Balance of Performance system used to ensure close racing in the GTE Pro class for 2017.
This new system will make automatic changes via a new calculation tool which uses data to set the BoP, eliminating human interpretation. It comes after 11 BoP changes were made over the nine-race WEC season in 2016.
This new system will be applicable for every WEC round this year aside from the Le Mans 24 Hours, which will be treated separately. GTE Am has not been effected by this change, and will continue to use the 2016 system.
The manufacturers and regulators have decided not to make the first adjustments until after the first two races so as not to over-react.
It has been agreed that the first adjustments will be calculated after Spa, and therefore will be made for the 6 Hours of Nürburgring.
Further details on the new system can be found in the FIA WEC’s official document HERE >>>
