Bonamy Grimes and Ivor Dunbar have both signed up with the Red River Sport agency, run by Johnny Mowlem, for full-season campaigns in 2017.
Dunbar will return for his second year alongside Mowlem, last year having competed in the European Michelin Le Mans Cup, this year the duo will be racing a Ferrari 488 GT3 in the International GT Open championship.
Grimes meanwhile will enter his first full-season of motor racing, competing in the full 2017 Britcar season as well as selected GT Cup rounds, the first step in Grimes’ path to his dream of racing at Le Mans. Both drivers have been placed with the top Ferrari specialist team FF Corse, who are running their racing programmes.
Grimes has been mentored by Mowlem from the moment he first stepped into a racing car, initially on track days and then moving into selected races in 2016. Last year he and Mowlem paired up to win races overall with their Class 2 Challenge car in GT Cup and Britcar. Grimes will again race a Ferrari Challenge 458 in Class 2 this year, with a livery featuring the branding from the new movie Steve McQueen The Man & Le Mans.
As part of its planned expansion for the future, Red River Sport has also confirmed to DSC that it has purchased a Ligier JS P3 which it plans to race later in the season with some of its drivers in bigger races.
“It made sense to purchase a Ligier LMP3,” Mowlem told DSC. “We already have a Ferrari 488 GT3 and a 458 Challenge car in our Red River Sport stable, and we are creating a staircase of talent for our clients, not just to reach to Le Mans, but also other big sports car races such as Daytona, Bathurst and beyond.
“We aim to get our current clients there through optimising their experience and learning curve in GT and small prototypes, to prepare them to arrive at Le Mans, not just quickly, but after they have enough experience to be able to really enjoy the whole event and contribute to the team as a pro driver would.
“Both Ivor and Bon are continuing to improve dramatically, and are building their enthusiasm for competing at higher levels through Red River Sport. I see both of them achieving their goals over the next two years, something that only a couple of years ago both of them probably didn’t think would have ever been possible!”
