Hanley Puts DragonSpeed Top In FP2

United quickest in LMP3 again

The new LMP2 cars continue to go quicker and quicker around Silverstone, as the best time of the weekend was bettered this morning in ELMS Free Practice 2, after Ben Hanley reeled off a 1:44.647 midway through the 90-minute session to put the #21 DragonSpeed Oreca 07 top.

Hanley’s time was marginally better than Ryo Hirakawa’s 1:46.699 in the G-Drive Racing by DragonSpeed 07 during FP1, and two tenths clear of the other LMP2 runners who were unable to challenge for the remainder of the session.

Second in the order was the #40 GRAFF Oreca of Richard Bradley, who set a 1:44.856 to put the French team second and ahead United Autosports’ Ligier JS P217 that rounded out the top three with a 1:45.742 from Filipe Albuquerque.

It was a good session for the second of the GRAFF Orecas too, with Enzo Guibbert putting the #39 fourth.

Once again the quickest of the Dallaras was Cetilar Villorba Corse’s P217 down in sixth overall, with Roberto Lacorte setting the car’s best time.

In the LMP3 ranks, United Autosports topped the times again, but this time with its #3 Ligier JSP3 of Wayne Boyd, Christian England and Mark Patterson, which posted a 1:55.804.

This time round Boyd went quickest for the Anglo-American team, that was three tenths faster than the Panis Barthez Ligier that ended up second and almost a second quicker than the sister #2 United JSP3 in third.

It was a better session for Oregon Team, which represented the fastest of the two Norma M30’s in the session. The car finishing the session with a 1:56.935 by Dario Capitanio and seventh in the class standings.

GTE meanwhile was topped again by an Aston Martin, though this time it was Beechdean AMR rather than TF Sport which finished P1. The best lap from the British team was a 2:00.517 by Darren Turner, which only managed to complete eight laps in the session.

Spirit of Race ended up P2 courtesy of Matt Griffin’s 2:00.547, with the Proton Competition’s Porsche 911 RSR rounding out the top three, just two tenths off the Beechdean Aston’s time.

It was a relatively trouble free run for the teams and drivers, though trouble did strike one of the LMP2 teams. The G-Drive Racing by DragonSpeed Oreca 07 had to be driven back to the paddock on a flatbed after its left-rear wheel became detached while Léo Roussel was out at the start of the session.

Next up for the ELMS teams is the first Qualifying session of the year, which is set to start at 14:05 local time.
