Today saw the Official Test Day ahead of the 2017 Total 24 Hours of Spa with sunshine greeting a pair of sessions that saw the vast majority of the full race entry on track.
Well over 50 of the 66 full race entries were entered for the test, plus a trio of Blancpain Sports Club cars, a quartet of British GT runners, Lee Mowle’s AMG and a Dörr Motorsport Super Trofeo Huracan seeing on-track action in the 3 hour morning session and/ our the 5 hours available in the afternoon session.
One of the crowd favourites was the all-Japanese crewed Good Smile/ Team Ukyo Mercedes AMG, the car getting up to speed with the assistance of the RAM Racing pit crew who will look after technical and logistical support for the Super GT GT300 regulars.
The #78 Pro-Am entered Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 topped the times after the morning session with a 2’20.358, just 0.084 ahead of the #25 Audi Sport Team Saintéloc R8 LMS.
The #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari was quickest in Am Cup.
The official Press release states that there were “Incidents involving the #48 MANN-FILTER Team HTP Motorsport Mercedes-AMG and the #63 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini during the opening hours” – the #48 indeed is shown with no times recorded in either session with the #63 posting just 4 laps in both the morning and afternoon sessions with neither the #66 Attempto Lamborghini nor the #86 HTP AMG GT3 posting times either.
The afternoon session was the faster of the two with the #117 KÜS Team75 Bernhard Porsche 911 GT3 R eventually the fastest of the day, a 2’19.451, edging out the best effort of the #55 Kaspersky Motorsport Ferrari crew by just 0.086 of a second.
Fastest in Pro-Am, and sixth overall, was the #42 Strakka Racing McLaren 650S GT3 a 2:20.068 6th fastest overall, first in the order outside 2:20 and edging out the best effort from the #78 Lamborghini by 0.026 of a second.
The Am Cup honours went again to the #888 Kessel Racing Ferrari, 2:21.050.
The top 40 cars were separated by just two seconds on the timing in the afternoon session.
The Bronze Test on Tuesday July 25th will be the first track action of a week of action for the Total 24 Hours of Spa.
