Hirschi, Manor Handed Seven-Minute Stop & Go Penalty

Red flag infringement sees the #24 heavily penalised for Sunday's race

The #24 CEFC Manor TRS Racing Oreca 07 LMP2 squad has been handed a massive seven-minute Stop and Go penalty for Sunday’s 6 Hours of the Nürburgring, plus a further 7 minutes stop & go suspended for the next three WEC races.

The penalty comes after Jonathan Hirschi overtook the #66 Ford GT at Turn 8 under the Red Flag caused by a photographer straying beyond the safety barrier. There was contact between the two cars during the overtake with the ORECA spinning as a result, the Race Stewards rejecting Hirschi’s defence that he was checking his speed limiter at the time of the incident as not excusing his actions.

The penalty for this weekend’s event will be served at the discretion of the Race Director, with the further suspended penalty to be implemented if Hirschi commits any further red flag infringement in the next three races.

The penalty for the #24 sees a second LMP2 runner set to spend a substantial amount of penalty box time in the early stages of the race with the #26 G-Drive Racing ORECA already dealt a three minute stop-go (plus a further suspended 3 minute stop-go) after Roman Rusinov’s contact with the #88 Proton Porsche at Le Mans that saw both cars retired early in the race.
