Sky Sports’ long-running miniseries Mowlem’s Racing Travels returns to screens this week on the new Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Arena channels. The half-hour programme, which goes behind the sportscar-racing scene with with Berkshire-based professional driver Johnny Mowlem, will have three episodes this year, and is now supported by Mowlem’s motorsport management organisation Red River Sport.
The first episode airs on Thursday 27 July at 6pm on Sky Sports Action. There are subsequent viewing opportunities on Sky Sports Arena the same day at 8:30pm and 11:30pm. The final two viewings are also on Sky Sports Arena on Friday 28 July at 9pm and Tuesday 2 August at 11:30am.
In the first episode Johnny continues to mentor and train aspiring ‘gentlemen’ drivers Ivor Dunbar and Bonamy Grimes. We go to Silverstone to follow their progress at a test session. But roles are reversed later in the show when Ivor shows Johnny how to drive the 1930 Bentley Speed 6 he has recently had restored in a bid to win an award at the world-famous Pebble Beach Concours event in California.
In part two of the programme, we join Johnny at Spa as he races a GT3 Ferrari 488 with Ivor in the International GT Open series; we also catch up with the Spanish ex-racer Jesus Pareja who runs the series. Finally, we return behind the scenes to Silverstone where Mowlem and Bonamy Grimes take the chequered flag in a Britcar Endurance Series event.
The programme is produced by Andrew Marriott of Pit Lane Productions Ltd and filmed and edited by Paul Pryke
