Jean Glorieux dominated proceedings in today’s Le Mans Cup Qualifying session at Paul Ricard, steering the DKR Engineering Norma – the sole M30 in the series – to Pole Position with a 2:03.378.
His time, which came at the end of the session, was eight tenths faster than the other runners in the LMP3 class, and was a marginal improvement of an earlier flyer which was seven tenths up on the competition.
Second on the grid for today’s race will be the #65 GRAFF Ligier, after Adrien Chila set multiple fast times, but could only manage a 2:04.182. He was however, the only Ligier driver within a second of the Pole-winning Norma.
Third was the Nielsen Racing Ligier, after a late improvement by Anthony Wells, a 2:05.073 was his best time. The #99 N’Race and #53 M. Racing YMR Ligiers took fourth and fifth on the grid for the race.
In GT3, Emanuelli Busnelli snatched Pole by less than a tenth for EBIMOTORS. The Italian set an initial banker of 2:11.063, before improving to a 2:09.881 to take Pole.
Busnelli’s Huracan GT3 beat out the Optimum Motorsport Audi R8 of Flick Haigh, who despite multiple attempts, couldn’t quite take the place. Her best time was a 2:08.660.
Third was the Ram Racing Mercedes GT3, after Ramon Vos took the place off Lee Mowle’s Mercedes at the very end of the session after a 2:10.112; it was two hundredths faster than Mowle’s quickest tour. Vos’ flyer came after spinning twice, once on his out lap, and again while on a flyer.
The final place on the grid will be taken by the SVC Sport Management Lamborghini Huracan, which didn’t make it out for the session.
Both sessions, aside from Vos’ spins, were run clean, with no major dramas for any of the runners.
Today’s two-hour Le Mans Cup race at Le Castellet is set to begin at 16:00 local time in France.
