Mowlem & Grimes Enter Final Rounds of LMP3 Cup Championship

Red River Sport add a fourth United Autosports entered Ligier for Donington

Johnny Mowlem and Bon Grimes will enter the final round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship at Donington Park with United Autosports as the Garforth, Yorkshire based squad enter no fewer than four Ligiers for the final races of the season.

The pair will team up in the Red River Sport Ligier JS P3 for their first official race outing in the machine. They have so far tested the Ligier at United Autosports’ exclusive test days along with Ivor Dunbar.

Red River Sport is a driver agency, set up by successful sports car champion Johnny Mowlem. Both Bon Grimes and Ivor Dunbar have signed up to Red River Sport and have been racing in the GT Cup and the International GT Open.

The final round of the championship will be held at Donington Park on 16-17 September, where United Autosports will run their usual full season entries for Tony Wells and Matt Bell in the #3 Ligier JS P3 and Christian England and Andrew Evans in the #2 Ligier JS P3. They will also run a fourth Ligier for Sir Chris Hoy and the Sports Insure Young Driver winner, Sandy Mitchell.

Bon Grimes, driver, United Autosports: “My motorsport journey so far with Red River Sport has been short but very exciting and stepping up to race the Ligier LMP3 is yet another challenge for me to learn from. Johnny and I will have a very busy weekend at Donington Park as we are racing in both the GT Cup as well as the Henderson Insurance LMP3 race, but it is an amazing opportunity to get as much racing in over the weekend as we possibly can.”

Johnny Mowlem, driver, United Autosports: “Bon has progressed so quickly that he is already well prepared to step up from GTs to prototype racing. It will be so much fun to race together on his prototype debut at Donington, especially with a team of the huge quality of United Autosports. They know the Ligier JS P3 far better than Bon and I do, so I’ve no doubt that we are both in good hands. Plus Richard [Dean] and I have been friends for years, since we were sportscar teammates back in 2000/2001!”

Richard Dean, Team Owner and Managing Director, United Autosports: “I’m really pleased to have Johnny and Bon join the team for the final round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship. They have been testing with us a few times and I have been impressed with how Bon has quickly settled into prototypes and of course everybody knows of Johnny’s ability and experience, I’m sure they will be very competitive at Donington Park.”
