This weekend’s Michelin Le Mans Cup weekend at Spa will feature a GT3 class entry boosted by the addition of the returning Gulf Racing UK team, which is back after racing in the series at the Road To Le Mans.
Gulf Racing’s Ben Barker explained that it’s a good chance for his teammate Andrew Baker, who owns the Porsche 911 GT3 R which Gulf Racing will run, to get some extra track time.
“He’s taking it race-by-race,” Barker said to DSC, “Spa is a great place, and the Le Mans Cup is a good place for a gentlemen driver to run without any real pressure. He was great at the Road To Le Mans, we got Pole and he led a lap with a load of pro drivers behind him, so this may be a chance for him to get a feel for the series and maybe do some more races in it next year.”
Barker has been coaching Baker for the past few years, and seen him step up from racing in cup cars to GT3.
“He plans to get as much racing in as possible over the next five years or so, and racing with Gulf is a great chance to do this,” he added. “It’s a great team environment and familiar for me.”
This weekend’s Le Mans Cup entry list is 22 cars strong, with six now in the GT3 ranks, it can be downloaded HERE.
