The 2018 ELMS calendar has been revealed today at Spa-Francorchamps, featuring the same six circuits on the 2017 season schedule.
The key change to the order are to the rounds at Silverstone at Paul Ricard. Silverstone has been moved from its traditional Easter Bank Holiday date in April, to August. It will once again be part of a double-header with the FIA WEC. Silverstone is therefore no longer the opening round of the season.
Paul Ricard meanwhile, will be run in April instead, opening the season on the 14-15. This means there will still be two races before Le Mans for the ELMS.
The pre-season Prologue test meanwhile, will be run at Paul Ricard once again, after being held at Monza this year. It will be on the 9-10 April, just before the season opener, run on the same circuit.
Portimao is still on the calendar, after it replaced Estoril this season as the championship’s round in Portugal.
All six races are four hours too, following the same format that has been used since 2014.
As for the Michelin Le Mans Cup, it will continue to support the ELMS at all the rounds except the double-header at Silverstone.
“The European Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup are two championships that give us complete satisfaction,” ELMS CEO Gerard Neveu said.
“We are making sure that the budgets are reasonable and are trying to keep our high-quality competitors that are running both championships satisfied. With this 2018 calendar we have chosen to emphasise cost efficiency, stability and quality.”
