An incident-free first free-practice session to kick off the ‘Donington Decider’ weekend saw the John Barnes/Mark Farmer-driven, TF Sport-run #11 Aston Martin end up as fastest GT3 runner, finishing ahead of the sister #1 machine of outgoing champions Johnny Adam and Derek Johnston.
The GT3 title protagonists finished that session third and fourth, the #33 Barwell Lamborghini of Keen/Minshaw (above) just edging the #31 Team Parker Bentley of Parfitt/Morris.
In FP2, a late flyer from Adam put the #1 Aston at the top of the timing screens, ahead of the #11, the #6 Tordoff/Griffin Barwell Lamborghini and the #33.
In GT4, the first free practice session was headed by the title-contending Lanan Racing Ginetta (above) of Alex Reed and David Pittard, with the PMW/Optimum McLaren of Johnson/Robinson second-quickest.
The other title-contending Ginetta crew, Will Tregurtha and Stuart Middleton in the HHC Motorsport car, were fastest GT4 runners in FP2, while Joe Osborne and David Pattison in the #56 Tolman Motorsport McLaren topped the pro-am subcategory and were second in the overall GT4 classification.
Third-fastest GT4 in the second session was the Richard Taffinder/Martin Plowman RJN-run Nissan 370Z.
Qualifying for both classes begins at 4:25pm Saturday, with a single two-hour race starting at 1:30pm Sunday deciding the titles in both classes.
