Michelin Becomes LMP3 Cup Tyre Supplier

Pirelli to stay as tyre supplier for GT Cup

Bute Motorsport has announced that Michelin will become the tyre supplier for the 2018 Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship, taking over from Pirelli.

The move brings the ACO (Automobile Club l’Ouest) endorsed championship in line with the Michelin Le Mans Cup, European Le Mans Series, and other ACO approved championships, which compete using tyres supplied by the French manufacturer.

“We believe this is an important move for the championship,” said Chris Haynes of Bute Motorsport. “This gives greater parity between all the ACO endorsed LMP3 Championships, which is important as we are an integral part of the ACO’s pyramid, helping drivers to compete in the Le Mans 24 Hours.

“This announcement will further increase the attraction of the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship.Interest in the series for 2018 continues to build from prominent teams and drivers who want to come and race with us, as well as motorsport enthusiasts who want to watch these amazing cars competing in the UK. We are committed to building an exciting, strong and stable UK-based prototype racing series.”

“Michelin is proud to be associated with the Henderson Insurance Brokers LMP3 Cup Championship,” adds Tim Hoare, Michelin Motorsport Manager. “We are looking forward to working with the teams and drivers in this exciting category. LMP3 is a strong package worldwide and the UK boasts some of the most challenging and iconic circuits in the world.

“The uncompromising performance, look, and sound of these cars makes it a very exciting showcase for our ultra high performance tyres. Limiting the number of new tyres that can be used over the course of a race weekend is also in line with our dual goals of total performance and sustainable mobility.”

Pirelli will however, stay as tyre supplier for Bute Motorsport’s other national series, GT Cup, as it has done for the past eight years.

“We look forward to continuing our close partnership with Pirelli into the future,” said Chris Haynes, managing director of Bute Motorsport. “Pirelli has been incredibly supportive of GT Cup since the start of our partnership, and offers our Championship the best option on the track.

“I am delighted our relationship continues to provide our drivers with the stability and reliability that we all want to see. The future for GT Cup is resoundingly and reassuringly set with Pirelli.”

“We are pleased to be continuing our long-standing support of GT Cup and its competitors,” added Jonathan Wells, Pirelli UK Motorsport manager. “The wide variety of different cars raced in the championship makes for an exciting spectacle on track, and also helps us to demonstrate the versatility of our products using the knowledge gained from supplying tyres to numerous GT series around the globe.”
