Essex-based team Fox Motorsport has announced that it will enter the 24H GT Series European Championship in 2018 with a new Audi R8 LMS GT4. The team will race in SP2 class for the opening round at Silverstone, before switiching to the GT4 class later in the year for the races at Portimao and Spa.
In terms of drivers, Glenn Sherwood and Jamie Stanley, who won three consecutive Lotus Cup UK Exige titles together from 2011-13, and Ben Clucas are confirmed as the first three drivers for the programme.
The team will tackle the Silverstone 12 Hours in the SP2 class before switching to the GT4 class at the Portimao 24H in Portugal and the Spa 12H in Belgium.
One seat remains unfilled for the Portimao race while Fox is also planning to enter the car in a selection of additional GT4 races across the UK and Europe.
Fox have also become the first team to enter the traditional season-opening Dubai 24H for 2019; Glenn and Jamie having already confirmed their participation in the Audi.
Fox, who are race winners in the International GT Open, British GT Championship, GT Cup, Lotus UK Cup and a variety of other series, are due to take delivery of the Audi in mid-January, after which an intensive pre-season test programme will commence at circuits in the UK.
“This is an extremely exciting time for Fox Motorsport as we ready ourselves for our first full-time international programme,” said Paul McNeilly, team principal. “Over the past 12 months we’ve focused on solidifying our base at an entry level of motorsport in the GRDC+ and Ginetta GT5 Challenge, and with the addition of a 24H Series programme with the Audi, we now have a staircase of talent through which drivers can take their first steps with us and rise through the ranks to international racing. In Glenn, Jamie and Ben we have an excellent pro-am line-up, and although we’re not setting ourselves any targets at this stage, I believe we can be competitive.”
