We still have a couple of stories emerging from the Racing Car Show in Birmingham last week to reveal, and both revolve around significant ‘firsts’ .
The first Norma M30 LMP3 car in the UK was on the Bute Motorsport stand promoting the LMP3 Cup.
That car is already being prepared for the season by Lanan Racing, a team with LMP3 experience both in Europe and Asia.
The first announced programme for the car though will be in the 2018 Michelin Le Mans Cup, Michael Benham and Duncan Tappy moving over from the GT Open to the ELMS package and fielding a full season effort with what looks to be a very competitive package of team, car and drivers.
Benham and Tappy have scored wins in the International GT Open in the past two seasons in a McLaren 650S GT3 and Benham raced last month in the Gulf 12 Hours with United Autosports producing competitive performances. The pair raced in the Road to Le Mans events at the Le Mans 24 Hours last season in the McLaren.
Duncan Tappy meanwhile will be racing a sports prototype for the first time in a decade (previously running with Rollcentre Racing in 2008 at the Monza 1000km) after success in McLaren and Bentley GT3 machinery in recent seasons, the 2007 UK Formula Renault Champion will be relishing the new challenge.
