After Mazda Team Joest topped FP1 at Daytona, the other new DPi effort in field, Acura Team Penske, came to the fore in Free Practice 2, its #7 ARX-05 topping the times with a 1:37.036 set by Helio Castroneves.
Behind, the #22 ESM Nissan DPi ended up second in the running, with a 1:37.360 from Nicolas Lapierre, putting the team just over three tenths off the best time.
The top three in the session was completed by the Mustang Sampling Action Express Cadillac DPi, Filipe Albuquerque setting the time.
In GTLM, the best time of the session was from the #911 Porsche GT Team 911, Patrick Pilot proved to be the fastest in the car with a 1:43.902, less than a tenth faster than the #3 Corvette which slotted in second.
Third was the #67 Ford GT, ahead of the #66 Ford, which topped FP1, that just missed out on the top three.
Alvaro Parente meanwhile, set the quickest GTD time, in the #86 Michael Shank Racing Acura, the former PWC champion lapping the speedway in 1:46.790. Three tenths adrift was the FP1 pace-setting #82 Risi Ferrari in second, with #51 Spirit of Race 488 again running quickly, ending up third.
There were a few issues during the session, the red flags coming out for the Manthey Racing Porsche suffering an issue at the Horseshoe. The #93 Shank Acura also had a drama, the car going into the tyres, it did however, drive away.
Next up is Qualifying, which is set to begin at 15:55 local time.
