For the third consecutive year Ombra racing will enter their Lamborghini Huracan GT3 in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup.
The team will aim at the Silver Cup title with a high level driver line up which will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
Ombra Racing started out in 1994 with Gianfranco Colleoni and Matteo Quadri created a Formula Junior team which competed in the Cadet Trophy. They initially competed in single-seaters, having won the 2004 team title in the Italian F3 championship, where Matteo Cressoni took the drivers’ title, as well as seeing their driver Kevin Ceccon take the Auto GP drivers’ championship in 2011. It was after these successes that the team decided to concentrate on GT racing and for the last two years they have competed in the Blancpain GT Series.
In 2017 with their trio of drivers Michele Beretta, Stefano Gattuso and Andrea Piccini they managed to take two points with Ombra placing their highest position of 15th at Silverstone. The season before they finished 13th in the Pro-Am Cup with Matteo Beretta and Giovanni Berton.
Michele Beretta took the 2017 Italian GT championship for Ombra Racing but one thing is for sure, Beretta will not be among those drivers being unveiled in the coming weeks as he moves to pastures new at Barwell Motorsport.
Team Manager, Davide Mazzoleni had this to say about the forthcoming season.
“After the great satisfaction of winning the Italian GT Championship, the return on the international stage was a natural goal for me and the whole team. Since the Formula 3 times, we have always been attracted by this kind of challenge. I am happy with this further step.”
