Created in 2011 and based in Spain, Virage Academy is a training centre for race car drivers. “Our ambition has always been to offer a broad range of services, such as a simulator, a gym, a physiotherapist, and a fitness coach. We also have two race cars, a Formula 2 and a Wolf CN Prototype, for our pilots to test. We should hopefully be able to add a Formula 4 to the fleet very soon,” says owner Julien Gerbi. The Frenchman is a former Formula 2, AutoGP, Formula 3, British Grand Tourism and Skip Barber Mazda Series driver. He joined Virage Academy in 2017, after working with the Spanish team Campos Racing for three consecutive years.
Over the past six years, Team Virage has welcomed such illustrious students as Sergio Perez, Vitaly Petrov, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde and Jolyon Palmer. “We recently went a step further by creating a racing team, Team Virage, and by purchasing two Ligier JSP3s,” says Gerbi, who also serves as Team Manager.
Team Virage recently tested one of its Ligiers with GP3 driver Julien Falcero in Motorland Aragon.”I have already completed one driver line-up for the VdeV Series, and I am working on filing our second car.” says Gerbi. “We are also looking at the opportunity of having our two cars compete in the ELMS and the Michelin Le Mans Cup with one car in each Series.”
