Jerseyman Jack Butel has confirmed that he will be returning to the LMP3 Cup Championship in 2018 with Speedworks, aiming to build on his experience competing in the inaugural LMP3 Cup season in 2017.
Last year, Butel scored five podiums and a win in the season finale at Donington Park in the team’s Ligier JS P3, en route to a third place finish in the standings.
“2017 went really well for us,” Butel said. “We had a rough start as we set about finding our feet. Coming from single-seaters took me a bit of time but by the end of the first race meeting, I felt very comfortable and that progress continued throughout the season.
“To claim wins at the end of 2017 and at the start 2018 (in teh 24H Proto Series in Dubai) I think really shows our intent for the new year. It’s great to be back in the UK LMP3 Cup as we learnt so much last year that we felt it would be important to attack the series again – this time with the title as our ambition and we are going to throw everything we can at it.
“My consistency was good last season but I felt it took me a while to get onto the pace. After our trip to Dubai earlier in the year I feel I am sharper and able to get into the car and go quick from the off.
“I know I can do it, the team can do it. We all know how to win now and that’s psychologically important when going for a championship challenge. I would like to thank my sponsors and supporters for their continued support and I look forward to working with them throughout 2018 in the pursuit of more trophies.”
The opening round of the 2018 LMP3 Cup Championship is set for April 21-22 at Donington Park, when the teams will take on the National layout.
