Oulton Park Race 2 Abandoned Due To Standing Water

No afternoon action for British GTs

Race two at Oulton Park was red-flagged and then abandoned after four laps, which took no less than 13 minutes, behind the safety car. The conditions were simply too wet to allow racing to commence and indeed the remainder of the entire race meeting was abandoned.

The only incident of note, which was hugely significant at the time (less so with hindsight) was Jonny Adam hitting standing water while passing a GT4 car on his way to the grid and aquaplaning off and into the tyres. The Optimum team fixed the car up and returned it, albeit four laps down, to the by-then static field but the decision was ultimately made to abandon the meeting.

Stop Press: DSC understands that the Race Director has referred an official decision as to whether championship points will or will not be awarded for Race 2 to the Championship stewards. The final decision could take a number of days.
