Winward/HTP Motorsport has announced that it will race in the full CTSC season with its #57 GC class Mercedes AMG GT4 for team owner Bryce Ward and Indy Dontje.
The Houston-based team had originally intended to run it’s third AMG GT4 at four events this year, but after encouraging results at Daytona and Sebring and with the pair lying fifth in points, it has been decided to compete in all 10 rounds and make run at the GS Championship.
“Initially I wanted to have the experience of driving the four classic tracks of Daytona, Sebring, Watkins and Road Atlanta,” explained team owner, Bryce Ward.
“I was concerned that I would be stretching the team too thin running the full season but the team has been absolutely amazing and have given Indy and myself a very competitive car,” he continued. Ward also explained how support from his family-run team made the decision to keep racing a simple one. “The Mercedes is a fantastic car to drive and I have really enjoyed it. Thanks to Russell and the team’s encouragement it was a very easy decision to commit to the full season.”
For Dutchman, Dontje, who has had his 2018 campaign with the team extended, its a welcome surprise.
“I’m really happy to extend my race program with Bryce here in the USA. I think we’re doing a great job in what is an incredibly strong field and we really have a chance to fight for the Championship. It’s also great to see that Bryce believes in our partnership and that he wants to continue with me for the rest of the season.
“From now on I will be spending more time in the simulator to learn all the tracks and ensure I’m fully prepared for the next race at Mid Ohio.”
The Winward/HTP Mortorsport team head to the Mid Ohio SportsCar Course this week for two days of testing ahead of next month’s race at the 2.4 mile, circuit.
