TF, Thiim Fastest In Snetterton FP1

Fox tops GT4 times

Cool and cloudy conditions prevailed at Snetterton as the cars went out for Saturday morning’s free-practice session, with a few spits of rain being felt in the early part of the session.

Nicki Thiim and Jonny Adam set the initial pace in the #11 TF Sport and #75 Optimum Aston Martins, going around the Norfolk track in 1:49.118 and 1:49.637 respectively. Phil Keen wasn’t long about getting among them in the #33 Barwell Lamborghini, however, going second-fastest early in the session with a time of 1:49.477.

A red flag brought a temporary halt to proceedings after just 10 minutes of running, with Joe Osborne and Jack Mitchell sitting atop the GT4 times in the #56 Tolman McLaren and #43 Century BMW at that point.

Marco Sorensen took over the #17 TF Sport Aston from Derek Johnston and went second-quickest overall after the lights went green again, with a 1:49.362, while Adam then made it an Aston 1-2-3 with a 1:49.440, demoting the Barwell Lamborghini to fourth.

The benchmark in GT4 was lowered to 1:59.507 by Mitchell after the red flag, with Scott Malvern getting the #66 Fox Motorsport Mercedes into second in class with 1:59.717 not long after. The #68 Steller Toyota sat third at this point in proceedings.

The red flags came out again around the 30-minute mark when one of the Steller Toyotas became stranded at Turn 2. Fastest times were unchanged at this point and running got underway again with 20 minutes left on the clock. Only three minutes later the reds flew again, however, this time for a car stuck at Turn 6.

That left just 12 minutes of green-flag running at the end of the session, enough for Maxime Martin to put the Jetstream Aston Martin second-quickest in GT3 on a 1:49.182, just 0.06 seconds off Thiim’s effort from earlier, which ended up being the fastest time. The #17 and #75 Astons wound up third and fourth fastest, while the Minshaw/Keen Lamborghini was quickest non-Vantage, ahead of the ERC Mercedes of Yelmer Buurman and Lee Mowle.

GT4 ended with the #66 Fox Mercedes fastest on a 1:59.455, ahead of the #43 Century BMW, #62 Academy Motorsport Aston Martin and #68 Steller Performance Toyota.

Free Practice 2 for the British GT runners kicks off at 12:10pm.
